Hi! Who are you?

I am Zach. Some know me as MidwestPrisoner. Many more Know me as Key.

How did you get into photography and who are your influences?

My father was the first to introduce me to photography. I'm influenced most heavily by Greg Crewdson, Daniel Hud, somebody called Bongripsinthehood, JM Giordano... The list just keeps going.

How do you usually approach a shoot?

I typically determine a theme or mood and decide on a few "safety shots". I work on completing those safety shots while filling in the blanks along the way.

Can you share a recent photo you're proud of and tell us about why you like it?

This was a test fire. Somehow I managed to line up two subjects and capture some good lighting on accident.

What's one piece of advice you'd give new photographers?

Don't listen to the guys on YouTube who own it all. Art is one of the the rare hobbies you can't buy skill in. Keep your head on straight and focus on making images that communicate your intentions to your audience.

Do you have any photo projects coming up?

Soon enough I'll be releasing a few zines. I'd also like to venture to Appalachia and shoot some medium format landscapes.
